W98 will not shut down or re-start.System freezes on "Windows is shuting down" page. Also freezes everytime I connect to ISP(MSN). The modem dials the connection and within seconds of the homepage starting to load the whole system freezes. The modem does not lose the connection until it times out for lack of activity.Everything else is working. Please help.

With the shutdown issue, try installing the MS shutdown patch. For your ISP lockup check msconfig from the run command and see what app’s you have running and remove anything unneeded. What browser are you using? If it’s IE5.5 or 6 try running the repair feature in add/remove programs.
