Setting Up Laptops

I just got a new laptop, and am confused as to how to set up the internet. I obviously have a provider (TELUS) for my desktop, and want to use the same one (so, I assume same ISP) for my laptop. My problem is I can't "repair the connection". It stops at being unable to clear my DNS cache (so I ran: ipconfig /flushdns which apparently had no effect).

I decided, fine, I'll use a new provider because it's free for 3 months to get around the problem then I'll switch over. I ran the "Easy Internet sign up" which could take me to AOL, but when it started dialing Norton popped up with some nice firewall setting. I can't turn off the Norton firewall because when I open Norton, it asks me to register it with Symantec, which then tries to use the internet and it stops saying there is no connection.

HELP ME PLEASE! I've been trying to fix this for 10 days on my own and with useless tech support. If you need anymore info, just ask.

I tried both. Neither worked. Currently I use DSL, and it says it supports 2 computers using the one connection, but I can't figure out how to work it. I tried to get a new provider (because TELUS is in a lockout), but didn't want to have to worry about cancellation fees later.
