I bought custom parts for a computer from newegg and built it myself. The computer was working fine for a while and I was able to get on the Internet but when I tried to register my dsl service it could not find a connection. Now, however, any time I log in and the computer is plugged into the Internet it restarts right away. I think it may be someting I changed in the control panel because I was able to access the Internet for a couple of days.

I have avast, avg, spybot, spyware blaster, adaware, and a linksys router.

That was what was strange. As soon as I plugged in my router and modem, I was able to surf the Internet and play an online game but when I tried to install my dsl service it couldn't connect in the step where it tests your connection.

So what you are saying is that you were connected to the internet already? Was this a dsl connection also? What do you mean by "When I treid to install my dsl service"? If you were already on the internet then why did you have to install anything? If you could post back and maybe help give us a clear idea of what type of connection you had, what you have now and what you installed. I can see you say what you have now is SBC yahoo dsl and a linksys router. What would help is a router mod and ver number and how the modem connects to the router. Right off the top of my head I'd say it sounds like you installed some SBC installer software to "register" and it can't see your connection maybe due to a firewall or the router itself.

REalmenchewgum,

I'm glad to hear the issue is fixed, however if you could maybe post back what the fix was so that others searching the forums may find the topic and get help too.

It was a compatability issue between the network controller on my motherboard and the modem I got form SBC. I just had to install the software needed for the DSL service through an Internet Explorer window with guidance from a person at SBC.
