To make a long story short. I pulled a computer that is a few years old out of my parents garage to give to my two year old. It is running Windows ME.

After installing a wireless LAN card, I ran Windows Update. Since that time, I have not been able to use anything 'Explorer' based - IE, My Computer, Add/Remove programs, etc.

I continue to get 'Explorer has cause and error in mshtml.dll'.

At another forum, I was told the file is 'back leveled', but instructions on how to fix the problem have not worked. Using the Dell re-installation disk has not worked. I even tried going to the DOS prompt and typed 'format c:' and that didnt work - I got the message that drive c was in use by another process and the fomat will be aborted.

I'm tired of Elmo and Thomas the tank engine hogging up my other computer. Help!

PS. I'm not a total computer tard, but I'm also not that well versed in Windows troubleshooting.

Thanks!

Hi msimano

You could try restoring the Registry.
If the problem started in the last 5 days you could try a
registry restore.
Click Start/ Programs/ Accessories/ MS-DOS Prompt
At the C:\WINDOWS> prompt type scanreg /restore
and press Enter
Note the space between the g and /

Registry Checker will ask, Would you like to continue?
Click YES

Select a date before the problem started and click OK

I tried a different boot disk and sucessfully reformatted the hard drive and re-installed windows. I've run all windows updates with out any problem. Thanks!
