Question Adding a 3rd computer to a secure wireless network

Okay, as you can see in the picture above, there are 3 computers that should be on a network.

The cable modem and Linksys router (model# befw11s4) are hooked up to the iMac.

The Compaq has a wireless adapter and is able to pick up the signal with the router.

The Dell in my bedroom is hooked up to a Linksys adapter and is NO LONGER able to connect to the router.

------
As you can see in the picture, the Dell computer is in my bedroom, and my parents don't know about it. I use the iMac in the living room and my parents' Compaq is situated close to the iMac in the living room, which is not the best for me since I am under their nose a lot. So my boyfriend gave me his old Dell for my bedroom, and it has been hidden in my bedroom for the past year, and I have been using it on the internet during the past year on the wireless network, UNTIL LAST WEEK.

Last week, my dad was reading Consumer Reports magazine about how people in the neighborhood and people driving by our house in a car can look for wireless signals, so my dad went into the settings of the wireless-network and made it so only his computer, the Compaq, can be on the wireless network. The second he did that, I lost internet access to my bedroom.

My question is, how can I restore internet access to my bedroom ? I turned on his Compaq, and I opened Internet-Explorer and went to the url of http://192.168.1.1/ ; and tried to get in by typing ADMIN as the password, but I cannot get in and change the wireless settings. Anyone have any pointers on how I can gain access to the wireless settings and change them, so I can get the internet back on in my bedroom ???

It sounds like your dad configured the router to allow only the MAC addresses for the two computers that he knows about to have access to the Internet thru that router. Without the login and p/w to the router you are out of luck. Sorry.

Hi Vanessa and welcome to CTH,

Believe me when I say I'm not trying to be a pain or mean but we just can't help you here with that issue. Our TOS or "Terms of Service" state that we can't help to bypass security set to keep others out of a system they don't own. The best advice I can give you here is to talk to your parents about this. Be calm and open about why you think you should have access to the internet in your own room. Parents are alot more open to these ideas if you come to them in a calm and easy tone. Also if you wanted you can ask your dad to visit here and make a post asking for ways to keep you safe using the router. There are other things he can do that would allow you internet access but at the same time keep you safe in cyberland. Many settings in the router will allow this so you could have the net and he could have peace of mind. I wish you good luck and post back if you have any questions. In the mean time I will ask other users and members to leave the above topic alone or this thread will have to be closed and that would be a shame.

That was a very eloquent way of putting that. I hope my responce did not in any way violate the TOS. My intent was to let her know that it couldn't be done.
