Networking

I have 2 computers connected to my high speed internet. I had to replace the NIC Card in the secondary computer. When I went to connect to the internet, it states that it could not open the search page. How can I fix this problem?

Welcome aboard....

First we need to determine exactly what your problem is. To do that we need a bit more info. WHat version of windows are you running? How is you network configured (modem, router, etc...)?

Have you checked the NIC in the device manager? Does your old NIC still show up in the device manager?

Also, run ipconfig/all and post back the output. That way we can see what network adaptors your PC thinks it has and their ip addresses and such.

cmd /k ipconfig/all [use to start ipconfig from 'Run']
cmd /k ping <some website, like google or yahoo> [use to ping 'www.google.com' from 'Run']

Sorry I did not give all the info. I am using windows Millenium, Internet Explorer 5.5. I have high speed internet using a modem. The NIC Card does show upin the device manager. I did the ipconfig/all and it does not find whatever it was looking for. So I typed in ipconfig and a black box blinks on fast and disappears. So I could not get the info requested.

Sorry, about not being clear...

run cmd /k ipconfig /all

This will bring up a command window and run ipconfig in that command window.

I have typed in everything you have written and it says that it cannot find. I tried to type in each thing separately but it is not working. Now I am lost.

Alright appears that your NIC is being seen correctly.

Ok, back to the device manager. Do you have a yellow icon with an exclamation next to the NIC? What is the name for the NIC in the device manager?

Open the properties for the NIC in the device manager. What is the device status?

You can give it a try. I'm not sure how much help you'll get as this appears to be a hardware issue with your PC. But it shouldn't hurt to try.

You may want to try going to the devicer manager and unistalling the NIC and reboot. This should cause the device to be discovered. Sometimes that will help.

Let me know what you decide to do.

Well, I did call my internet provider and we were on the phone for an hour trying to solve the issue, with no luck. She said to call HP for help. But they will charge me $40.00 just to speak to a tech. I have another friend who is familiar with my pc, so I will call him. I did do the uninstall and reinstall with no luck.

Thank you so much for trying to help me. I will call again on you in the future if I need to.

Thanks again.
