I was setting up outlook express 6 to work with my hotmail. After entering the information I got this message: Unable to poll for new messages on your HTTP server. Account: 'Hotmail', Server: 'http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp', Protocol: HTTPMail, Server Response: '', Port: 0, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 12007, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D
Any ideas on how to solve this.
Thank You
AnnMarie

Hi BUTTER - I just set up a Hotmail account to see what was happening.
When I created the Account in IE6, I filled in all the details but didnt check the "Log on using Logon Using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) box in the Internet Mail Logon section and also got a very similar error to you. So I deleted that account and started again, this time I checked the box and lo and behold, I received my mail. Hope this helps - cheers AM

Thank you Ann. I tried that secure log on and still no luck. I got a message saying server couldn't found. Anyone else have any ideas on how to solve this problem.
Thank you

Sorry that it didnt work for you BUTTER. I have had a look at a number of sites since you posted. This problem is quite common and it seems that there is not one sure fire fix for it.
Removing the account and rebuilding it seems to work for some, Microsoft document a similar issue and their fix it to go to Start > Settings > Control Panel and open Internet Options. Click on the Privacy Tab and then Edit. In the Address or Web site box, type www.hotmail.com , and then click Allow then OK.
Others experiencing this problem have had success by deleting this key in the Registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Winsock2 then uninstalling and reinstalling Dial Up Networking. In case you want to try this, here (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q246727) is the link to a microsoft article on how to perform this action (for a different issue though)

hi BUTTER
After reading this thread I went to my o.e.6 and set up my hotmail account without a problem, following the instructions provided by MSN and AnnMarie.
If none of the fixes provided by her work for you, you might want to try the IE 6 fix that is provided in the tools. Settings/ control Panel/ Add or Uninstall Apps. Uninstall win I.E. 6.0 and tools and you will get a screen that gives you 3 choices. Try the fix Option which will eventually ask to reboot your machine. (Remove the hotmail information in O.E. first.)
After this re try to set up the accounts following the instructions provided by MSN and AnnMarie
If this dosen't work guess you will have to either sign up for a new Hotmail account or attempt to rebuild the account ( AnnMarie suggestion # 1) and try again.
Best of luck:D(Remove the hotmail information in O.E. first.)
