i just hooked up my network. both the desktop and the laptop are connected but i cannot surf the internet. the internet will come up but every addresse i put in is not found.

Can you give us some detail about your network setup? I assume you use a router or switch or hub to connect the laptop and desktop? What type of connection do you have example cable or dsl? What ver of windows do both computers use?
