To start, thanks to all that help out here, this is a great site and you folks don't get enough credit for what you do.

With that said, a breif description of the problem is, I am trying to connect a wireless notebook to a network. I have been able to get connected by manually putting in the IP info, but never on auto detect.
Problem is on the manually entering, I cannot get to the internet or anything else, it just says I am connected and the speed is good/ excellent.

here are the details,
router type is a MicroSoft mn-700 with latest firmware updated.
Notebook/ wireless computer has a broadcom 802.11g wlan

Opeating system on the desktop is xp pro
OS on the notebook is xp home
Modem type is cable
Router is hard wired to main computer and working great,

Here are the settings that I used on the notebook on the manual enter alternate configuration:

IP add 192 168 2 1
sub mask 255 255 255 0
default gateway 69 145 68 1
preferred dns 69 145 248 50
Alt Dns 69 145 232 4

these settings get me connected to the network, but thats all I can do, no internet.

Next here is the ipconfig from the notebook:

primary dns suffix ..........

Physical address 00 c0 9f c2 46 b5

default gate 69 145 68 1

What you need to do if you want to manual config the connection is leave the Alternate config alone. Use the tick marks beside "Use the following ip address" and "Use the following dns server addresses" in the main config.

IP address : 192.168.2.x "something in the range of 2-152
subnet mask:255.255.255.0
default gateway:1921.168.2.1
dns: should be the ip's given by your isp for dns but looking at your desktop its using 192.168.2.1 and its online yes?

If you want the laptop to use auto config then make sure your router is setup with dhcp enable. Make sure if you have WEP or WPA setup that you are using the right passkey.
