Unhappy Please help...pc is in big big trouble!!

hi all...
my trouble is this...i have my brothers pc and it is running windows me and he was surfing the web and picked up something..One is called popuppers and another is call (unknown) anyway after he got these the resources went very low but before he could get download anything to help, it then froze...he then tried to reboot and nothing..he could not go anywhere...he also does not have the recovery disks or anything else that might help so he brought it my house and tried again nothing...he then thought he could install windows xp from another compaq pc and boot that way..well..nope that didn't work..got an error message about configuration and the boot disk was not right...but i did get to windows advance aptions and it only shows running windows xp and that as we know was not installed right...is there anything that can done to fix this?? any help would be greatly appreciated

First, get a legitimate operating system CD--98SE, ME, or XP. Then post back here or in Cyber Safety and someone will help.
Be thinking about any irreplaceable files on Brother's computer--documents, pictures, etc. They can likely be recovered, but it'll be easier if you can just reformat the drive and reinstall the OS.

hi...i have already done the reformat and i am getting a legitimate copy of something tonight not sure what yet but it will either 98 or xp...thanks for your help!

Also a quick question...changed the partitions...did that reformat everything? or should i have gone another route???

Using F-disk? That functionally wipes all the data from the affected partitions. You should have had to reformat to use the partitions, though.
If you used something like Partition Magic to change partitions, then the contents of the partitions are still there, including viruses/malware. Beware!
