I have 2 winndows XP computers (One proffesional and one home) and i recently reinstalled windows on the home one. Now I have no LAN connection and using the wizard doesn't work either. I know very little of networking.

Hi Jon0,
Before someone can help, we need a bit more info. Take a look at this post (http://www.cybertechhelp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=84447) for what info you should include so others can help.

ok.
The LAN connection on my PC doesn't work. the 1394 connection works on both. The bridge and internet work on my dads PC (The one with a net connection). I've tried the "Setup a home network and the one that has the option for internet sharing.
The network is a 2 computer one linked by one ethernet cable. No router. I have no idea what ICS is. My PC (The one that won't LAN) is on windows XP home and my dads is on XP professional.
Hopefully that'll make it easier for people to help me.

ICS is internet connection sharing (BTW - Thx, I've updated the post to say this)
I'm still not getting a clear picture of what you have for a configuration and what doesn't work.
Let me see how close I am....
Your Dad's PC has the internet connection (broadband?)
You are using an ethernet (cat5) crossover cable to connect your PC to your Dad's PC. This used to work before you reinstalled your PC, correct?
You have ICS enabled on your Dad's PC so that you can access the internet from your PC.
Am I correct so far? Now on to more questions...
What do you have for an IP address on your PC?
* Run "cmd /k ipconfig"
What is your default gateway?
* Also included in the output of ipconfig.
Can you ping your default gateway?
* Run "cmd /k ping IP_ADDRESS_OF_DEFAULT_GATEWAY"
