Ok if I understand you correctly You computer wont boot to windows right?
Is the error message coming up before windows starts to load?

Will it go into Command prompt only?

Give this a try if you dont know what program is causing this error. When you boot your PC, when the first screen appears hit the F8 key (CTRL if F8 doesn't work) when the menu appears choose Step by Step confirmation. Choose yes on each step. That will allow everything to load. This should allow you to figure out which program is causing the Error....

As for a Compaq recovery disk. You will need to call compaq and tell them what kind of laptop it is and the model number. They may still be able to provide you with a recovery disk. It will cost you though of coarse....
