what is an ethernet card? do i have to purchase one even if the back of my cpu has a 'telephone cable outlet' looking thing that says ethernet? how do i know my mac address from there and do i just simply buy a ethernet cable and plug one end to the wall and the other to the cpu?

yuppo if you could give us a bit more info we might be able to better help you out. What sort of internet service do you have "cable, dsl.dialup, really fast mice in a round plastic ball"? Next you might want to tell us what ver of Windows your computer has. Lastly tell us a little about the computer istself. Such as is it custom built or did you buy it from the store. What brand is it and give model numbers where you can.
