Have you checked the status of the wireless card in the device manager to make sure there is not a problem with it?
Who set up your modem? Did they disable SID broadcasting? Have you tried copying the setting from the desktop to the laptop?
What is the exact model of the broadcom card? Did you get a manual with it and have you checked if the broadcom has its own configuration utility or if you should use the MS one on XP?

In the device manager, what is the wireless device listed as?
If you go to the wireless config on one of the desktops what does it show for AVAILABLE networks?
Have you tried popping out the wireless card and putting it back in?

When i go into the device manager it says its a "Broadcom 802.11g Wireless Adaptor"
On my pcs i am using a bt voyager 1040 card this coms it with its own utility, zand this will pick up the bt voyager 2100 router...
As for the laptop card..its a built in one?? No just slotted into a pci slot on the side of the laptop...

What version of the driver do you have for the wireless ?
Here is the latest from acer (version Broadcom Wireless LAN B+G Driver 3.100.46) ftp://ftp.support.acer-euro.com/notebook/aspire_3000_5000/driver/802bg.zip
