i bought a wireless router, it was all set up and working fine until one day i couldn't get the internet, i tried turning off the modem, router and pc many times, no luck. then i tried connecting the cable directly to my computer from the cable modem, it worked, i realised it was the router causing the problem.

i have a Negear 54mbps wgr614v2

cable modem

pc/laptop/xbox

windows XP home sp2

i tried going through the instructions, as i did the first time i set it up, i noticed that the power light does not come on the router, but the ther lights do!

now im looking at the router lights i can see the internet light is on, but the internet it not connected to it at the moment! can someone help me out. do i have a faulty router? it was bought new only about 2 months ago

(the PC and XboX are connected by ethernet, and the laptop is connected wireless)

Have you tried a factory reset? Have you called netgear tech support? It sounds like it could well be a router problem. If the power light does not come on and turn green, then the router could be failing its Power On Self Test.

BTW - I have the same router sitting in a box to be sent back, it is dead in the water and can't even power up successfully, the power light continues to flash yellow..

i was going to call tech support, they charge 0.90p a minute i was put on hold every time, it would better for me to just buy another router, it would cost about the same as calling tech support.

how do i do a factory reset?

..ahhh i found the reset button and pressed it but nothing happend! any ideas?

Did you do the reset with the power on and wait for the power light to flash? Is the power light turning green? If not it sounds like a unit failure. Why is a 0.90p charge? they should be handling it without charge. Are you contacting them at 0870 112 1206?

You can always try the email option. See http://www.netgear.co.uk/product_support.php?sub=support#support

Ok I understand better, its not a charge from netgear, its a phone charge. You can give the online support a try. You maybe able to get an RMA # through them.

If it was new and they other person didn't register it, you may be in luck. I'd just tell them that you don't have your receipt and can't return it to where you purchased it and leave out the ebay part. ;)
