I mentioned in my post on the HDD subject that my son upgraded my computer, then went in the Navy. It used to be a HP Pavilion, til he changed everything. My current stats are listed in my profile.
Thing is, since he changed everything, my modem just "stops." Sometimes when I first go online, or sometimes after I go to a page or two. Then, about every 3 pages it just stops for about 60 seconds, then starts again. It does not disconnect....just stops doing anything. When he upgraded me, he had installed a Broadxent V92 modem and that is when the problem started. Finally, he put the original modem back in and put the V92 in his own computer. Mine is still doing the same thing, and the V92 is working fine in his system. So, I'm having the same problem with two different modems and had no problems before the upgrade. It has not worked right since the day he upgraded me. I have checked with my ISP (a smaller one with real good personal tech support) and no one else is having this problem. I had the phone company come out and test my incoming phone lines for integrity and noise. Phone lines are fine (they put in new lines to the house 4 years ago). I also have a new dedicated phone wire from the box directly to the computer. I was not having this problem until he upgraded this system. Personally, I suspect a conflict somewhere in the motherboard and don't know if there is anything I can do. It is really frustrating because I just get going, a page will start to load, then the modem just stops. I have to wait about a minute before it starts loading again. Anyway, thanks for any thoughts about this. Best...Larry |

Have you checked to see if you have the latest Drivers for your Modem? Could be that either the drivers are to old or are incorrect.
What kind of Modem is it? |

It is an HSP56 MicroModem. I'm not sure what he did, but I'm getting the driver off a disk titled "Computer Associates BitWare for Windows." Under disk contents it just says "Modem Driver for Windows 95/98/NT/2000." Seems like I tried a search once for newer drivers using HSP as my search keyword. Truth is, when I search for an updated driver, I'm not sure what I'm searching for.
I might add that I'm nearly 60 and got my first computer 2 years ago. When I got it connected (using directions & diagrams), I just sat and looked at it for a few minutes. Didn't even know how to turn it on I'm still a novice and what I've learned I have picked up through forums. I just don't want to think I've learned so much that I get myself into something I can't get out of Sure wish I had found your forum sooner!! Thanks so much....Larry

Dowload these drivers. They should be the ones you need. After you download the drivers. Unzip them into a folder where you know where they are. Then Right click My Computer icon and choose properties, then the device manager tab.
Find your modem and Remove it. Then choose to add a new one. Point the search to the drivers you downloaded. |

Thanks for the attempt, Dodge, but I think the drivers don't like me
When I went to unzip it, it automatically unzipped and went to the install program. Didn't give me the option to unzip and save somewhere. It installed and said I needed to reboot, so I did. When I tried to go online, I got an error window saying the driver does not support my hardware (modem). I tried to unzip and reinstall the new drivers, but it wouldn't let me....said the modem was in use (It was not....I used Ctrl/Alt/Del to see what was running). I decided to restart and it froze when Windows was shutting down. Got it restarted and reinstalled the original driver. It is working now, but no idea if it will still do it's "stopping" routine. I'll have to use it for awhile. Still, since I reinstalled the original driver, I kind of think the problem is still there. *New modem time??* Thanks...Larry |

Hi Larry.
If the c/d is the same windows bitware for windows that I am thinking of try using the "fin011g" drivers on the c/d. There are a lot of drivers on the c/d you may have to "trial and error" until you find the correct ones. If you still have the modem documentation it will tell you which are the prefered ones. Hope this helps
