i use quicktime and i noticed that certain .avi files (not all, i dont know why) wont play.. a messege comes up saying that QT doesnt have the right component and then asks me if i want to be directed to this (http://www.apple.com/quicktime/resources/components.html) page.. and then i dont know what to do next.. :disgust:

The answer is to download and install this, but it seems not to work in Tiger or QT7 at present.

'i use quicktime and i noticed that certain .avi files wont play', that is because QuickTime does not support all the '.avi' versions.

In addition to divx (http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/), as per Big Jim, which is not yet MacOS X 10.4.x - 'Tiger' compatible - consider the freeware applications: MPlayer (http://mplayerosx.sourceforge.net/) and VLC (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html).

I have found Mplayer plays everything that Quicktime can't , but I wish they would sort out the compatability for Quicktime.

It's not really a compatibility thing with Quicktime, it's a licensing thing.
