Hey folks!!
Yeah, I was staying in Gulfport, MS, fairly close to the gulf, but made it to a shelter a few miles north of I10. Winds of 140-145 tore part of the roof off of this elementary school used by Red Cross for a shelter. But we had no casualities other than the straglers that kept coming in after the hit. From New Orleans to the Alabama line will never look the same again. And I thought Ivan the Terrible was as good as it gets. Ha!!! You can't fool Mother Nature.
I'm back in Pensacola now for a while and don't even need to use my flashlight to get around at night. A/C and TV is pretty good.:michaelan
I know N.O. will have the most casualties but the Mississippi gulf coast will have it's share. I feel so sad for the thousands of dead and millions of misplaced people. Weeks, months, years will pass before everything is patched back up.
The Red Cross could have not been nicer and helpful. Every day more and more supplies came in our way.
Even though this is just an FYI, I have to say, "Shoot the looters, rapists,
snipers, and what have you!!" Looting for food and water is not right but understandable but TV's, loads of cigarettes, boxes of shoes, etc, etc, etc,
I can not imagine the mentality of stealing TV's while standing in waist deep water. But then again, you have to know what goes on in N.O. all the time anyway. There is no rhyme or reason for the crap that happens in a city of over a million people with 85-90% blacks. Nuff said.
Hope everyone is doing well and I'll be back in touch.
