Last night i decided to make the move from wired, to wireless, and all went crappy fromt he beginning. OK first, when setting up my wireless router (belkin wireless G with belkin wireless G desktop nic card). Now, my network is very small (3 computers, two of which i want to talk directly to each other via filesharing) Before i installed my wireless nic, and started using the wireless router, i was able to setup network drives relatively easily (for some reason i had to go through a lot of seemingly unnecessary steps before i could successfully map my network drives) but now i am unable to do this, even following the same steps as i usually use. Now, a few things that struck me as unusual. As part of the setup process for this new router, it has to verify a connection to the internet, but the only way i was able to complete this step is to connect my dsl modem to my old wired router, and then run a cable from the uplink port on the wired router to the internet port on my wireless router. That is the only way it could complete the internet verification step (i couldn't access the internet, or other computers on my network just using the belkin router). After i finished that whole step, i could access the internet on all of my computers, but the two that i mentioned earlier that i wanted to map network drives to couldn't see each other. I ran the network setup wizard, and left both of them on xp's default workgroup (MSHOME) they both have unique computer names too. Another thing that bothers me is that although all of my computers are tied into the belkin router, when i try to log into my router (192.168.1.1) it logs me into the wired router, which i half expected. The only thing i could foresee is that of the two computers i want to map network drives on, one is wired to the belkin router, and one has a wireless card that talks to the belkin router.

A quick question before diving in deeper. Is your IP from your ISP static or dynamic?

I believe it is static. Since my original post, i have managed to get one of the two network drives mapped.

If it is static, your old router must be set up to use the static IP your ISP assigned you as its external IP. So, to just use your new router, you need to set it up to use the same external IP that your old router is using.

Alright, i will see if i can't find some information about setting it up to use the same external (and if i in fact have a static ip, i honestly can't remember). BTW i like the quote in your sig.
