Thanks For Looking and any help you can offer up:

Two Computers main is xp corp wired from router, notebook is xp home wireless.

Internet on both are working fine.

Notebook can Ping main and itself.

Main cannot ping notebook, just times out, can ping itself.

Have tried with firewalls off no change.

Both systems are set for file share

I have tried just about every combo I can to get them to see each other with no luck.

On the notebook network it says a cable is disconnected, what do I need a cable for on a wireless setup???
I beleive my problem is that the Network is trying to use the modem (realtek rtl/8139) instead of the wireless (broadcom 802.11b).
I cannot find a way to change the network settings to broadcom for this setup. I could delete the realtek and see if broadcom kicks in, but did not want to mess something else up.

Suggestions?

That looks good. Are you pinging by name or Ip address? Can you run 'route print' on the main PC? Also run 'tracert <laptop name>'.

I was pinging by both name and IP.

Can you run 'route print' on the main PC? Yes

Also run 'tracert <laptop name>'. YES

I can also run both from the Notebook.

UPDATE: I really don't know what has happend, but after adding zonealarm to the note book everything started to work. Tracerts, pings and everything, not sure if ZA had something to do with it, but would of thought it would of been to less likely to work with ZA the the other way.

I really did nothing else as far as I know. The only other changes were a Avast update.

Anyway, the dang thing is working, why I don't know--- thanks for all the help.

on the XP Pro goto Control Panel>Folder Options>View> and check to Use Simple File Sharing

See if that helps.

Thanks for the update. Glad to here it is working. Sounds like something odd with the XP firewall.
