View Full Version : Windows Explorer NOT responding...

Whenever I turn on my HP Pavilion N3402 laptop, it boots to the HP wallpaper and loads the desktop icons. When I click an icon on the desktop, an hour glass appears next to the pointing arrow and nothing happens. When I press Ctrl-Alt-Del, I see "Explorer (not responding)," so I "End Task." The entire screen refreshes and then my laptop queries me to return to my normal default desktop settings (which I do). Only then can I click a desktop icon which then executes without further incident. What is causing Windows Explorer to stop responding?

Hello paradocs, welcome to CTH.

You might want to try system restore.

It is possible to use the System Restore utility from a Command Prompt (using a bootdisk):
