At least I assume it is. Im trying to connect two computers which are both running windows XP, I have a 'Linksys BEFCMU10 EtherFast Cable Modem' and it is currently connecting one of the computers (this one) to the internet (cable) although I also have Webstar and terayon modems with me. What Im trying to do is, using ethernet cables and no router, give my other computer the internet also. As you may be able to clearly see I have no idea how to network even to the slightest degree and despite my efforts I just cant get it to work ... they have, however, in the past, before they both had to be reformatted, been connected. I just forgot how I did it.

If you have a spare ethernet port on the PC connected to the modem you can use an ethernet crossover cable to connect the two PCs and then use ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) to get internet access.

Here is a starting page for ICS (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=%2Fsupport%2Fie%2Fie5%2Ftopics%2 Fics%2Fics.asp)
