Howdy and welcome to CTH:

I split your thread from the other as it is not kosher to hijack someone else's and it make giving fixes a lot less confusing!!

I understand you tried to re-install Win95.. Can you step me through the procedure you used??

Murray

Well, Win95 cd's are NOT self-booting..

What steps have you taken thus far to get 95 installed ??

It didn't delete it.. I split yours from their's (gave you your own thread)..

You are going to need a boot floppy to get things started.. You can get a Win98SE OEM boot floppy from www.bootdisk.com

Download the self-extracting file to your computer.. Now, get a clean formatted floppy and put it in the a: drive.. Double click the file you downloaded and let the program extract the bootup files to the floppy..

Okay I did that... and I put the disk in and I got all the way to "Preparing to start your computer...this may take a few minutes...please wait etc." and anyway how long should I be waiting for that screen? There's a place where I can type- should I type something there? Thanks-Katy

Are you at the A:/> prompt where the cursor is flashing? If you as it booted the screen should of told you what drive letter it assigned to your CDROM. Probably D: Do you remember seeing that?

The message you are getting is one you should get.. Your cd drive will now be e: drive..

Put the windows cd into the drive, at the a:\ prompt type "e:" (no quotes).. the drive prompt will change from a: to e:.. type in setup and let Windows do its thing!!

1: Is Win95 still on the computer??

2: Is ANY operating system on the computer??

3: Is the Win98 cd you are trying to use a full install or upgrade (it will say on the cd) ??

Okay... I'm pretty sure that Win95 is still on the computer because I didn't delete anything that had to do with Win95 when I was deleting files in the first place... and the Win98 cd is a complete installation CD because it came with our other computer...so yeah is there anything I can do without having to buy software?? Thanks, Katy

You can't use that cd anyway as you can only legally install it on one system..

Also, because Win95 is still on the system, you will need an upgrade cd or buy another Win98 cd and completely fdisk and format the hdd to remove Win95 and then install Win98..
