Question Adding Memory

I have never added memory, but have been told it is just a matter of plugging the new one into the M/board. Is there anything else I should know about it, besides making sure I'm grounded when I do it? Thanks....Larry

Should have mentioned that I do know added memory needs to match the type you already have (cannot add SRAM or DRAM to an existing DDR). I've also heard that it is better to install the same size (if you have 128MB SRAM you should not add a 256MB SRAM.....is that right?).

I use Sdram right now. Waiting for my case to get here for my new system. It is a DDR board with a max of 3gig DDR or 4gig of Registered DDR....

memeory

type matters...most computers use pc100 not pc133
size only matters in placement...put the bigger of the 2 closer to the mobo, or move old one back and put new one in older ones place.
My pc started with 32mb. I added 128 later, then replaced the 32 with another 128 stick. The pc read the ram properly each time.

Post FYI

The amount of RAM you are adding doesnt have to match the amount already installed.

After you install the memory, when you turn on the computer make sure that you computer reads the correct amount of RAM that you have. This also insures that you installed it properly.

I think I said Size only matters in 'placement.'
To check if your pc is reading the added RAM :

Right click on 'my computer'
click on properties
the last or next to last line will show you how much RAM the computer is reading.
If it's not reading what you had plus what you added, re-read my first post
