Auto-archiving, if enabled, should create a new folder called 'Archive' and any messages older than the time specified in the auto-archive settings will be in this folder.

I am having the same problem .......to retreive my e-mail that goes to "hidden folders" within the e-mail..........inbox. I finally found them by clicking on "edit" then "find"........."message" and type in who the e-mail is from and to.....then put the date of "received before" and then "find now".....it brings them up but don't know how to get them back into the Outlook Express In Box?? Please e-mail me with a solution. Thank you. Joane

hi
I ought to ask what version of OE you run.
(mine is OE6, but since I don't use it much, I could not tell you where the archiving options are found...)

anyhow, let's see wether one can find some folders with the emails etc in it

first, set folder options so it shows all files, and make it show hidden folders and files

then launch file manager (explorer)
use the search function, select advanced mode
make it do hidden files as well
let it do sub folders

you let it start from C:
or let it do My computer (for all hard drives)

search for *.dbx
(star dot dbx)

you should see at least one folder, there should be more.
That tells you where these folders are
you can sort the view for folder

leave the search pane open, side by side if you wish, and in explorer just browse to these folders, and you will see there are other files in there.

the larger ones hold more data...
now you could launch OE, and start importing from file.
This can be a bit hit and miss, but I had to do this for someone some months ago, and I know it frustrated me somewhat, but I found the way..
I trust you can too, once you have found the files...

TOO bad that I use DUTCH menus, so even when I try to reproduce the method on the other computer here, my translations would probably be confusing us.

OH, the adressbook is found by searching for star dot wab
*.wab
it is in another folder altogether.

One thing I remember is that once you start importing mails, you have to look at the options
allow duplicates yes/no is one of them

all, or just one?

if you are talking about hundreds of messages, it can be a chore to delete the doubles... but it is probably more time consuming to filter for those you want...

I have long ago decided I like outlook better (ever since version outlook 98) because its backup and import functions are so much easier...

you play around with detailed view in explorer... That way you see size and date...

once you found the files, and have spotted where the archives or backups are,
you launch OE

you hit import
you hit messages
you are presented a program listing
you select OE
you select from archived file
you point it to the folder you see the files you want in (them that got made when you last ran archive)
and then it is up to you to select all folders, or just the folder you want.

on the other machine, I just done this on mails I saved back in 2001... that is when I stopped using OE, actually.
