I have an Imac G3 (350 mhz, 128 ram). I was trying to install OS 10 from OS 9.0 and was told to update my firmware. I canceled out of the installer and the computer froze. Now when I restart, the screen does not turn on. The computer does. It goes through the whole process and I can shut down by pressing the keyboard power key and enter. The screen came on once when I tried to boot from the OS X disk, but the screen was a dark red and I still could not upgrade. I have an OS 9.0 disk, but the screen still will not come on when I try to boot from it. HELP Please!!

Your best bet is to try and run the firmware updater again. You may have permanently damaged the firmware by canceling the installation process. Do you have an Apple Hardware test cd?

After digging through the Apple forums, I stumbled across a fix and have since pulled my hard drive and installed it into another mac. This happens whenever you try to update in a slot loading iMac without updating the firmware before installing OS X. The fix is a bit involved but hopefully will solve the problem
