rebooting my PC in safe mode

Hi,

How do you re-boot a windows ME machine in "safe" mode. I tried clicking start then clicking restart and OK. I then press and hold the F8 key down. I am supposed to get the reboot menu (this is what I have been told to do but this does not work). I don't get the menu and the computer just boots up as normal. I also tried using the ctrl key. Please help.

Howdy and welcome to CTH:

Is this a Dell, HP or one of those types of systems??

Also, don't press and hold.. Just keep tapping it as the system is booting..

Try F8 first and, if that doesn't work, try ctrl..

The machine is a Gateway. I will try feverishly tapping F8 or ctrl. Thanks.

Try reading the documentation that came with the system.. Some are a little tricky - Compaq's for one!!
