Compaq Presario . . . Win Me Operating System . . . BSOD error messages . . . can't move beyond the "desktop" without getting BSOD messages below and then the entire system "locks up." A new cpu is not in my current budget. Wish to use this pc for my kids' "typing program" and "board games." Doesn't have to connect to the internet. I've searched your site for other posts regarding these BSOD messages and found solutions ranging from "replacing a memory chip" to "downloading .dll files." Do the error messages below mean anything specific to you? Can anyone suggest a solution for this machine based on the messages below? Any help is most appreciated.

"I re-installed everything. When the desktop appears . . . if I try to click on anything, I get this message: An exception OE has occurred at 0028:C0049285 in VxD VFAT(01) + 0000AA21. This was called from 0028:C0049AAe in VxD VFAT(01) + 0000B23F. It may be possible to continue normally. Press any key to attempt to continue. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart your computer. You will lose any unsaved information in all applications. Press any key to continue.

So, I hit the enter key and then I get this message:
An error has occurred. To continue: Press Enter to return to Windows, or Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart your computer. If you do this, you will lose any unsaved information in all open applications. File Name: VFAT(01) + 0000A398 Error : OE : 0028 : C0048BFC.

So, I hit the enter key and then the desktop appears and is "locked up." The mouse cursor no longer works and I have to hold down the power button it force it to turn off."
