Question Messenger in LINUX

i am using linux (ubuntu 5.04) and using internet on LAN but i am unable to signin with my msn and yahoo messenger i also gave settings of networks but messengers are unable to install so please le me know is there any other solution to for network settings or how can i see the network settings for mesengers? i am using Gaim to sign in yahoo and msn mesenger.

Does gaim give any connection errors? Have you changed any of the connection settings? Is there a hardware or software firewall blocking the connection? There is another messenger like gaim called kopete (I don't like it near as much, though), you might give it a try if you can't get gaim working.
