You have a neighbor who is at your door every week asking you to look at their computer. I have my Diploma as a PC Support Specialist and while I know it is great practice. I am getting frustrated because he insists on doing things that he sould not be doing.

Example: His mother's computer had no sound, I was told the sound just stopped working. I opened up the box to see if the sound card was loose and just with the way the cables where I could see that someone had been in there. When I asked about it he told me he opened it and was in there! When I had the box the CD was not working and yet when I asked his mother about it she told me it was working. Then I noticed the CD wasn't even in the control panel, then I was told that this computer is in a 15 year olds room and who knows what he did. I asked for documentation for the computer and was told I don't know where it is, Patriot is out of business so I could not get any help from them.

I spent three hours today removing viruses and porn took over the computer. He uninstalled his anti virus, can't remember the reason though. If a program is not working correctly IE: Microsoft defrag he reinstalls Windows 98 over everything on the HD. I told him not to but he does it anyway. He insists on defraging the HD everyday.

I am at my wits end and at times have not answered the door at all.

Hi

when helpfulness is abused like that, and they was warned they can lose all data, one can format it .
(I would still try save irrecoverable data, especcially mother's, but they need a lesson)

some shops do that, and have a disclaimer.

I think the 15y is either looking for speed, or for MORE speed.

and yes, I oft work for peanuts, but abusers do pay.

Simple answer is to password protect the boot up.
No sense no computer.. Maybe he will learn to be more responsible with the gear....:( :)
