Did you load Windows 95 drivers and transfer software for your MP3 player on the laptop, or the same as you used for Windows XP? You might need different versions.

You might want to check out the web site of the mp3 player manufacturer because most of the time they'll have the drivers that you need. Also windows 95 huh? well that's really out of my league since the oldest one I've used it's the 98 version.

And also what exactly are you trying to do? Because if you're trying to pass files from one computer to another you might want to check out the file transfer wizard. You just follow the wizard and hook both computers. I'm really not sure if this would work on windows 95 because you're supposed to run the wizard on both computers and I don't know if the 95 version has it.

and if the old computer doesn't have the wizard you can create it. when you run the wizard select create Wizard disc (example: removable disk G) just make sure your old computer has the same kind of drive.

what do you mean? if you have the transfer wizard in BOTH computers you either can transfer the files via removable disk (and yes I think this would count as an mp3), XP disc, or the COM cable.

if you want to use your mp3 as a removable disc the open the wizard and click I want to create a Wizard disk in the following drive... and pick the drive where you connect your mp3 and this should create a wizard on your player, then connect the mp3 to the laptop and run the wizard (using the file stored on your mp3).
