My secondary computer is a standalone, not connected to the net. It works on win98se with office 97, 256 memory.
In the last days, from time to time only, a delay of several seconds appears when I work on Word and some other programs/
I defragmented all three partitions of my hard disk, ran a Norton System check, Ad Aware and Spybot S&D, and found no problems, but the delay continues.
Can still another check be made?
Is it possible that some hardware problem exists in my computer, and if so how can it be detected?
Please advise
Thanks

Hi idr -
How exactly does the "delay" happen? Does the display freeze for several seconds? Does the mouse not move? Please provide more details.
At this point it's hard to tell where the actual problem lies, but more details might make it clearer.

It might be a software/driver problem. Unplug all of the devices (USB, printer, etc) that are connected to your computer and connect them 1 by 1. I've had that problem before and my USB printer was causing it. I reinstalled the software for the printer and it fixed my problem.
You might want to do chkdsk and disk cleanup and then run defrag again.

just so. the mouse acts as usual and the cursor moves, but when clicking on a function ot scrolling the display freezes and responds only after a few seconds.
