cant open emails

More information is necessary. Do you mean emails, attachments, or instant messenger items? Which messenger/email? What operating system; XP, 98 etc? :)

Please post back with the exact wording of the complete error message as well as what email software you're using (Outlook Express, Outlook, something else?).

outlook express 5 is what i use on windows 98
the error message reads:pop.ntlworld.com erravgpop3 proxy server
cannot connect to mail server port 110,secure (ssl)
error number 0x800ccl90

Do you have AVG (antivirus) installed? The error is most likely due to the configuration of AVG's email scanner.
