View Full Version : cd roms wrongly recognised as audio CDs

Hello there this is my first post

I am using an IBM Thinkpad 1412, 160 MB of RAM, Pentium II (yes I know that is puny)!

The computer has just gone through a reinstall of Win 98 from the original disks and MS office 2000 has been installed. It has 2.51 GB free space. The hard drive is divided as follows a C: drive for program files and a D: drive for documents.

The problem is that although MS Office was successfully installed with CD roms I tried then to install the drivers for my LAN card. Then I find that when using Windows Explorer to look at my files the E: changes to AUDIO CD (E:) when there is a CD-ROM in it and the Audio Rack audio CD playback program opens automatically.

I really hope someone has some advice on this ongoing repeating problem disabling a much needed computer.

Have you tried checking the CD out on another PC? Since you were able to install other programs through CDs, the LAN driver CD might already be bad.

Hi Isxek!

I have just tried and the disk does work in another machine. I have been told that this problem with non-recognition of the CD ROM is a 'bug' in Win 98.

Any further advice?

best,

M.
