Windows Explorer problem?

Hi this is my fist posting to the group and having read previous posts I feel comfortable in the knowledge that some good person here may be able to assist me - All of a sudden I can't use my start button to access the start programmes. When I left click and then scrol up the screen freezes I get told I have the Cerberus virus by NAV (although they have no knowledge of this virus on their site) and I have to reboot. (The initial message that came up was that I had a Bloodhound Unknown virus but Norton say this is a name given toa corrupt file where it is not known whther it is a virus or not). I can right click and use Explorer though.
When I click on the My Computer icon on desktop then go to (for example) control panel and start scrolling the same thing occurs.
I have also noticed that IE6 crashes mpre regularly and gets faults that close the programme.
I have carried out scanreg /restore (this only contains a list of 4 dates that start the day after my problem commenced!) and checked the file registry via windows and done virus checks and there is nothing showing. I have run anti-spyware programmes also.
Looking forward to your comments.
Thank you.

First run one of the free online virus scans at Bit Defender, Panda and Housecall.

I suggest you run at least two since no one antivirus program is 100% effective on 100% of the viruses out there 100% of the time.

HI again - before I run these do you know if they are purely a free scan and if I want repairs done I woul dhave to buy the software as are most of the other free virus scans online? My main concern is that by downloading their 'scanner' I get more software loaded onto my pc and my registry files could get more corrupted in time.
Thanks.

I've not yet tried Bit Defender but I have used they other two. They're totally free. You do have to allow them to install their scan engine on your computer and on a slow connection, that can take a while but it is safe.
