If your computer still boots into Windows follow the advice in the supplied link;
http://www.windowsreinstall.com/install/oem/Compaq/Compaq_98quick.htm
If you can no longer boot into Windows you might be better off buying the full version of Windows 98se, reformatting and doing a new install.

Howdy jesterhtk,
May have to step back and take a new approach. For the moment, click on the Bootdisk link below my name and download (to your good pc, not to a floppy) the 98 bootdisk file. Then load a clean floppy, and click on the downloaded file and allow it to create a boot floppy. Put this into the Compaq and startup. Select the without CD-Rom option, and at the a:\> prompt, type
scanreg /restore (space after scanreg)
Select an earlier date with Started next to it.
Remove the floppy before restarting. Post back here with the results for further steps. The Quick restore process can be sometimes quirky depending on the different models, and someone here can discuss addressing any existing issues and possible disabling any antivirus programs prior to attempting the Quick Restore again.

Sorry about the arm. The "invalid disk" error comes when you boot with the bootdisk? Have to ask:
1 - you downloaded the bootdisk file to a computer folder (not a floppy), and then loaded a clean floppy and clicked on the file and let it create a bootdisk on the floppy?
2 - your BIOS is set to boot from your floppy drive first?

You download the file, then click on the file itself. It will open a small program, that will then create a bootdisk out of the floppy.
