Hi. First of all very new at the whole web publishing thing. I have a name for a domain that i see is available by checking internic. I currently use a small family hosting package (cheap) from my ISP for my web stuff so far, but it only lets you name half the domain eg *******.bigpondhosting.com. Also I've already named that something else and am not sure I can change it. I'll check though. If I want to own the new name how do I go about it and are there any full domain hosting packages you could direct me towards that are cheap!
Cheers

Well, there are probably thousands of non-free ones (much more than thousand in reality)
You just need to do a Google search. However, I use this FREE service at: http://www.dot.tk, which is a some sort of "redirecting" server. Meaning that you need to have your own site already located on some free-hosting server (or on paid-for of course) and then that site will be accessible through this URL. For example...
My "non-full-name" home-site:
http://users.volja.net/tayiper
Is accessible through this address:
http://www.ivan-tadej.tk
Hope this helps, satyr

Many webhosts will register a domain name and also provide hosting. They vary in price. You can do these separately if you wish. The domain name registration and web hosting are separate services though it's convenient to do both with the same company. Sometimes you get a better deal. You can shop around for something that meets your needs.
I like 1and1. They have some pretty cheap prices but I don't know about personal support/service, I've never had an issue that required it. http://www.1and1.com/
GoDaddy.com is popular and fairly inexpensive. They provide registration and webhosting. Some people like Yahoo but I think they're a little more expensive. I've used them for domain name registration and hosting. Haven't checked prices for a while. There are many others, someone probably has more to recommend.
If you register a domain name and get hosting for it, you'll need to transfer your site to the new host.
A dot tk domain is cheap. ;) I would recommend you get a dot com for a few dollars more.

For me, I used Go Daddy to set up my domain name, then I used these guys...

For my webspace. They are so cheap, and offer unlimited webspace, it's just ideal for someone just starting out simply because the cost is so cheap, and they have CPanel too, which offers many different features that can be used on the webspace, well worth taking a look into. :)
