Start Up Problem

Every time I turn on my computer, after the windows 98 screen, I get a blue screen and it says:

Windows
Invalid VxD dynamic link call from CWCSBPRO(03) + 00001C4F to device "3BFD", service 3.
Your Windows configuration is invalid. Run the Windows Setup program again to correct this problem.

To continue running Windows press Y or ENTER. To quit the current program press N. If you continue running Windows, your system may become unstable. Do you want to continue?

I just hit enter and the computer continues to run fine, but I would like to fix this problem if possible. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

OMG I guess you've never borrowed anybody's software to install on your computor have you. Anyway if he has a valid product key it is not illegal to borrow somebody else's CD.

Some computors came with windows pre-installed and they weren't given a CD so maybe degradition it's already on your computor.

If you can boot to DOS type in this

C:WIN98 then type in setup or setup.exe and see what happens. If it's there then it should re-install windows for you

Thumbs up

P.S. If you don't know your product key do this to find it.

Click on the Start button, then run and then in the window type "regedit" and click ok.

This will open the registry editor. Be careful not to change any entries.

In the registry editor window, under 'My Computer', click on the plus beside 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE' to expand the tree.

Next, click on the plus next to Software, then Microsoft and finally Windows. You then click on the word 'Current Version'. This opens, in the right window, a directory that includes the 'product key' listing. On this line you will find the data that will allow you to reinstall Windows. For Windows 95 it will be a number formatted this way: xxxxx-OEM-xxxxxxx-xxxxx. For Windows 98 and ME it will be five groups of five numbers and letters. Write this number down to use during the installation process.

No I haven't.. If I want a program, I buy it.. From your post, I would hazard you have no qualms pirating a program from someone else!!

#2: The file he is having a problem with has to do with his soundcard.. No need to re-install the OS !!

Sometimes I think we go too far with what is illegal or piracy here. If you own the programs and have simply misplaced the disks, then I'm sure you also can contact the various program sources and get new disks, especially if you know the product codes. Borrowing or using another disk but putting your code in, is done everyday of the week by shops who build computers, and there is nothing illegal about it. Easiest way to reinstall the soundcard, is to open case and move it to another slot, which is more than likely necessary anyway, as irq problems in 98 abounded, and it sounds like you have one with the soundcard!

Try using Everest.. that should give us the make of your soundcard.. from there we should be able to get the drivers from the manufacturer!!
