Sorry if this is the wrong forum for this, but I work for a charity (The Multiple Sclerosis Resource Centre) and we are having a few probs as below from my managing Executive

Looking for Java download that isnt the latest version (it won't let us access our online switching system for the counnselling service with newest version!) - buggered if I can find anything on www.sun.com (http://www.sun.com). Bloody old version worked fine!!!! Grrrrrr..........

Any ideas on where I might find version previous to 5.0.4 ?

The counselloring service is a 24hour freephone service for anyone affected by MS so it is vitally important we track down this if we can, have doen a websearch etc but no luck, so was wondering if anyone on here could help us out??

cheers

Hi Dammit,

Thanks for that, I found that page last night, but am not sure if this is what they are after - the problem is I am not at the main office, and their technical skills are about as good as mine are at french embroidery:(

I have asked them what platform they need it for, so the page you have sent might be what we are looking for.

You can tell I am a htmler, not a java bod, as I have no idea if it's right either

cheers

I don't know where to find an old version, but they are probably looking for Java 1.4, since a few things changed between version 1.4 and 1.5 (also known as Java 5), though any of the differences between these two are more likely to create warnings than errors, but only while compiling code not interpreting it. The difference between 1.3 and earlier to 1.4 or later is a lot greater though, and may in fact break applications that have this difference. The ideal solution would be to update the code from the application to 1.5, since all of the application-breaking changes were for the better (security, effiiency, etc). Failing that, you might like to check around with people you know and see if they have a copy of the right version and platform.

Thanks everyone.

It appears this is an issue with "Call Control" not being compatible with Java 1.5 as this message from the "help" (yeah, right) desk shows

Call Control is only compatible with Jave 1.4X. This release is still
> supported by Sun. The is not compatible with Java 1.5X. As the Call
> Control
> platform is upgraded all Call Control Customers will be made aware of what
> the minimum requirements are.
>
> The Java 1.5X will need to be uninstalled and Java 1.4X will need to be
> installed at the moment.

So it looks like we are looking for a version 1.4x of Java, on the trail :O)

Thanks for all your help, if anyone has a version 1.4x kicking around could you let me know and maybe we can get a copy off you?

cheers

squiffy, I've PM'ed you a couple download links for Java 1.4.2 SDK and JRE. I forgot to mention they are for Windows only, so if you need another platform I can't help you.
