Hi, I recently built my PC and put XP Pro on. I also wanted to see what linux was like so after i had windows up and running for a few days, i installed Fedora Linux Core 3. I played round with it for a few days and then uninstalled it. I use two hard disks with XP running on C: and Linux running on E:. By uninstalling it, i mean, using windows, i went into my computer, right clicked the E: drive and pressed format. Now the Linux Boot program 'GRUB' (which is installed on C:) is trying to boot up linux but now linux is not there. So when i turn my computer on, it just goes into a GRUB command line thing. It wont let me boot up windows and I have tryed holding F8 as it starts but it still does nothing. I would greatly appreciate help on this topic.
Thanks

Hi roadkill37

- Start your computer with your XP disk in the CD drive.
- Choose the Repair option
- I can't remember how - but there should be some possibility of going to the command prompt from there (I think it might even take you straight to it?).
- Make sure you are in the root directory at the command prompt (C:/)
- Type in the following:

fixboot c: [Enter]
fixmbr [Enter]

It should be OK now - if not - post again.

Note: You are always at risk of loosing / damaging your setup when you work with these files - so........no responsibility taken :-) You might end up having to make a fresh install.

Sweet, it worked, i had already tried going into the recovery console and doing things like that, but I didn't try those commands, thanks heaps. Unfortnatuly now it asks me if i want to boot up XP or there is just a blank space above the windows selection that can also be selected. I havn't gone into it yet, but thats at the top of the list and if i dont scroll down the the XP selection it will boot it up automatically anyway.
Thanks for helping.
