System Start up slow when Airport enabled.
I have a PowerBook G4 running OS 10.3.9 – when I boot up the system with Airport still enabled, it can take a long time (5 – 10 mins) before the system starts up. Is this normal??? The laptop basically connects to two different Wireless networks – one at school and the other at home. Normally if Airport is disabled before shutting down – then the laptop starts up quickly, but if I forget, I have to pay the price on startup… Is there a setting I should check??? Is there a way to automatically disable Airport on system shutdown???
Thanks |

Chances are the Airport card is seeking an address on start up and it's taking a while to find one. I'd be willing to bet that the slow startup occurs where there isn't a wireless network and Airport is enabled and the Powerbook starts up normally if there is a wireless network available. There's no real fix for this other than to boot where a network is available or disable Airport if you intend to boot again where there is no network.

This 5 - 10 minute delay in start up is when there is a wireless network available. The only time it starts up normal (within a couple of minutes) is when Airport is DISABLED before shutting down.
Oh well just have to remember to disable Airport. Thanks, |
