Question File Delete problem I can't figure out...

Ok the normal routine:
Click a file (or files)
Send to the recycle bin
Empty the recycle bin

And the file(s) are gone right?

... except when I reboot my computer or turn it back on from being shut down, everything is right back where it was.

I've run Spybot, Adware SE, TrojanHunter, and the TrendMicro online virus scanner, but nothing seems to fix it. Any clue what's going on?

If it makes any difference, this is my work desk top and it is hooked to a network.

Thanks

Howdy and welcome to CTH:

First thing I would do is check with your IT Dept. They may have disabled the Recycle Bin so someone can't dump a needed file or, hide their net usage..

Thanks

Thank you, glad to be here.

And believe me, I have. The tech that our IT comp. keeps sending is stumped. We are having... issues, to put it nicely, with our IT company and may be looking for a new one soon...

What sort of files are you trying to dump??

Have you tried disabling the Recycle Bin so files are just deleted and seeing if they come back??

Any kind- old word perfect docs, picture files (jpeg, gif, bmp). So far it doesn't matter what file type, it just doesn't go away.

No I haven't heard of disabling the Recycle Bin. I could try that... how would one do that?

Right click on the Recycle Bin icon and select "properties".. Now, you should see an option to "Do not move file to the Recycle Bin, etc".. Just check that, apply and okay out..

Well, it was worth a try, but it didn't work. The items were all back once I restarted.

Very strange.. Even though your IT Dept may not be on your x-mas gift list, you better contact them and make sure there are no restrictions..

If your at work and that machine is your work computer then chances are
the Network machines are running a program called DeepFreeze.

There is nothing you (or the tech that doesn't know anything) can do about it.
The program is in place to ensure the machines stay the way they were set up.
