PC Rebuild

My daughter has my first PC, given to me by my late father. It's a Dell Precision 486SX/25. When I gave it to her, it had an Asus SP97-V board with an Intel P-200 (when I upgraded it, it was slammin'!).

It's now too slow for her. We just finished putting in a Pine 361BS board, Duron 1GHz chip, Speeze fan, a W.D. 20G drive, round Cables Unlimited cables. Used the old NIC and Diamond modem, same PS (350W). Same floppy (original) and old 50X CDRom.

She did a lot of the work, and most of the installation (drivers and such). We're both real proud.

She's 7 years old

Way to go.

I think my 3yr old is going to be like that.
The 10yr old couldn't care less but Samantha is always wanting to help "daddy fix the pooter", walking around with the Phillips screwdriver.
When she's ready (in about a year I think ) she'll get to play with the insides of the working 486DX4/100.

Sean, mine's a Samantha too!

AnnMarie, not quite Miss E. Reason for the upgrade was for her Barbie™ games to play smoother, as well as all those Britney videos

Hello Zipulrich,

Sounds like you might know something about my problem with an older computer that I'm trying to get to work as a Windows95b machine.

Could you take a look at my post in the Windows 95 forum? Topic is "Com port issue after Win95 upgrade". Just wondering if you've ever come across this issue.

If you have any ideas, I sure would appreciate it.

Thanks,

Laura

PS: Watchout! Daughter will know more than Dad by the time she's 10!

I just love the name Samantha!

Wow, these young children/'puter geniuses....that's pretty amazing! Really cool, in fact!

As for Barbie, don't make premature assumptions! She may be pretty and date a lot, but she was always one smart cookie.....how ya think she marketed herself so successfully!

I always hate it when a 7 year old knows so much more than I do...
