Please help me out with the following Windows (ME) restoration from backup problem. While the system was still running well, I saved all files in C:\Program Files and in C:\Windows in folders by different names on the same C-drive. Saved are also all simple files from C:\. So I did a simple, naive backup. Subsequently the system suffered some damage from a Trojan Horse and hence I would like to simply erase all files in C:\Windows and in C:\Program Files and replace them from the backups.

Windows has a very nice xcopy32.exe, with many switches, accessible via the DOS-window. Also, I made a bootable floppy and simply added the xcopy32.exe, deltree.exe, etc, in hopes of being able to copy 32-bit files and long file names from booted DOS. Unfortunately the booted DOS runs only the old, 16-bit xcopy and not the xcopy32. However, deltree.exe seems able to do its job on all files.

Is there a way to make the xcopy32 run from booted DOS? Or perhaps a way to make the whole Win ME operating system run from a Zip disk? Some such solution might be appreciated by others, I suppose, for one cannot replace all Windows files from within the same Windows.

Best regards,
