Windows ME Network Problem

I had 2 computers running Windows ME that were networked together and sharing the internet with no problems. I had to reformat one of the hard drives and now I can't seem to get the network operating correctly. Each computer only sees itself in the Network Neighborhood but can see the other computer when I use the "Find Computer" feature. I've tried renaming the computers and the workgroups but keep running into the similar problems. At one time, one computer would see both computers in Network Neighborhood and the other would give an error when I tried to open the Entire Network. Is there an easy way to remove any knowledge of the old network setup from Windows ME on both computers so I can start fresh? When I uninstall the network card and then reinstall it, Windows ME still remembers the old network identity information. I'd hate to have to reinstall Windows on both computers. Thanks in advance for any help in this area.

When you edit the workgroups do you reboot in between? And you shouldn't be forced to rename the PC as far as I know. That isn't what's important. The workgroup is.

Have you disabled the network connection and then tried to make a new one?

Eleclair, could you describe your current hardware & software configuration? For example, do you have ICS installed on your host machine? Did you prepare a floppy with ICS Client and run it on the Client Machine (you don't really need this, but it does all the settings for you)? Other than this you need to perform the following on both machines:

1. Unique Computer name for each - the Host might need a specific name depending upon ISP requirements.
2. Workgroup MUST be the same.
3. Select Client for MS Networks on both.
4. Select File & Print Sharing (at least File) on both.
5.Sometimes it helps to have some shared item on each, like a Folder of your choice.

Do you use a HUB or CROSSOVER Cable & have you checked these?

On the Host Machine, in Internet Options (Control Panel) have you checked your "Shared" & "Home" settings - do you have the correct addapter selected for each?

Can you still access the internet with the HOST?
