learning xp: udb file question
Hi, (please forgive my english)
Can please someone explain to me what the exact difference is between a UDF and UDB file. At this moment I am studying 70-270, their was a full explanation of how UDF files work, but not how UDB files work, see the following extract from microsoft on the UDB option (i guess you can see this as a full explanation): /udf:id [,UDB_file] : Indicates an identifier (id) that Setup uses to specify how a Uniqueness Database (UDB) file modifies an answer file (see the /unattend entry). The UDB overrides values in the answer file, and the identifier determines which values in the UDB file are used. Oke, up to this part I understand it, I think ;-) But not this part: For example, /udf:RAS_user,Our_company.udb overrides settings specified for the RAS_user identifier in the Our_company.udb file. The only thing I am asking myself is: what is the exact reason why RAS_user overrides settings for the RAS_user identifier? RAS_user already has a unique id in the udb file. Why should it override itself? I have tried to find a udb file sample on the internet so I could see the syntax etc. But no luck. Thx. AC |

/udf:id [,UDB_file] : Indicates an identifier (id) that Setup uses to specify how a Uniqueness Database (UDB) file modifies an answer file (see the /unattend entry). The UDB overrides values in the answer file, and the identifier determines which values in the UDB file are used. For example, /udf:RAS_user,Our_company.udb overrides settings specified for the RAS_user identifier in the Our_company.udb file. If no UDB_file is specified, Setup prompts the user to insert a disk that contains the $Unique$.udb file.
