Hey,
I've been trying to improve the icq icon on peoples posts.
But I'm running a java script blocker on my computer which I don't trust when disabled - smurfy had no problem using it.
So if any of you are using ICQ could you please try clicking on someones ICQ icon when it's green (or online) and tell me if it works ok please ????
Cheers,
MiShY

You will need Java Scripting allowed in your browser though.
Also I'm not sure whether you'll have to have ICQ open at the time to use it.

Hey,
Seems like Netscapers might have a lil trouble with the javascript.
Did yous have this problem with the old icq icon ??????????????????????????????????
IE works fine.
Netscape - it might be a security level problem blocking js.

Once again, Netscape seems to be the bane of our existence - I've got JS enabled in NS 4.7 but still won't display the popup panel properly in NS - it's fine in IE5.
Going to fiddle with a few settings and see what the difference might be.

Hi...
Smurfy asked me to post here to see if I can help you out with the problems you are having in Netscape with your ICQ javascript hack. I'm in the process of adding several hacks to the SAF board, so I might be able to help.
He tells me that the NS javascript window just stays blank - no icq paging panel at all - but works fine in IE.
Now, you need to edit 2 files... ubbmisc.cgi and ubb_library2.pl, to make this hack effectively work.
I need to see what you have DONE so far. So, if you can send me copies of BOTH those files to webmaster@phzzz.com , then I can probably dissect them to see what might be wrong or missing, and then send you revised copies.
Take care!
...Tom

Hi
MiShY the ICQ thing works fine in both IE and Opera but noot in Netscape. If you ever need to know if something works in Opera just ask and I will let kyou know. I use it for 90 percent of my browsing.

Hi
it is a lot a smaller footprint than any of the other two. It is only about 1.5 megs. It seems to be a lot faster, the only drawback is that it doesn't remember passwords, but that is the way the Opera team built it and they wont change it. You should download it and try it for thirty days and see what you think. After the thirty days you either have to buy it or the only site you can go to is the Opera homepage. Here is a link www.opera.com (http://www.opera.com)

Thanks lafave. But so the point of it here on the board is - if the icon was lit up, then you'd know that person has it and you could instant message back and forth? Is that right? Somebody help out this poor dumb soul! http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Harrie, I tried ICQ a while back, and to be honest I was not at all keen on it!! I had a few friends who use it, but I didn't like the "spam" or "adult" messages being sent to me, they seemed to be happening every time I opened up the program! It is also a rather large download. In the end I got rid of it. But I do now have Yahoo Messenger, and have so far had no problems with that one.

ICQ can be good if you know how to use it - you've got to realise there are a huge number of registered useres so it becomes a prime target for spammers. but you can configure it to keep them out.
I will post further on this in the applications forum later (maybe tonight, maybe a bit later).
Yahoo messenger gets the same sort of spam (my wife uses it) unless you configure it to block it as well.
If configured properly, it will be an invaluable tool if you have many friends or associates on the 'net. At suggestafix, we use it as one of our primary site administrative tools.
