View Full Version : Verifying DMI Pool Data

Can anyone explain what the above message means?
I assume it's a Windows message as it comes just after the first flash of the WME opening screen during the POST procedure.
Reason for asking is that I had a major problem after installing some software yesterday on my new system, which I subsequently managed to remove, and it seems to take longer now to carry out that task, well at least it seems to but I could be mistaken so just wondered if it could have been affected.
Is the time for the task dependant upon the amount of software installed???
One other question not directly related to WME. During POST I noticed that my new system gives a message:
Secondary IDE: No 80 connector cable installed. All the drives are detected ok. Is this something to do with ATA133 drives, which I don't have???

Hi chris18 - you might want to have a look at this article by M$ Error Message "Verifying DMI Pool Data" Occurs and the Computer Is Unavailable (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;Q287553&). Not quite what you have described but still worth reading and may well be related to your second error message.

Hi Ann Marie
Had a look at the article. Getting a bit confused as the Verify DMI Pool message also appears on a friends machine so not too sure it's indicating a problem on my system.
My concern(?) was I thought it seemed to be taking longing to carry out it's check, after I'd had the program problem.
Could well be I'm mistaken and just not noticed it before.
Think I will contact Soltek and ask them about the cable message and the DMI Pool just in case there is something I need to set in the BIOS.

Sorry Chris18, I didnt mean to confuse you. As long as your computer does not hang with that message, you should be OK.
The DMI message is from the BIOS. It performs a check as the system starts up, to verify that the information contained is up to date.

Hi
the 80 conductor message indicates there is a device on a IDE port that has ATA 66 or higher capability, and the ribbon used on it is a forty conductor ribbon.
so, you may have one 80 and one 40 conductor ribbon inside
(Haven't seen many mobo vendors include two ata100 ribbons)..
Albeit some CDROM and DVD have ata66 capabilility too (these that do usually have default setting of ata33.), you would not notice any speed increases. BUT... if a forty conductor is used for hard drives, they would not operate at ata66 or higher even when the drive has that capability.
I know that when I see the message, that I replace the ribbon with a 80 conductor ribbon.

Thanks AnnMarie & Jaak
That clarifies the situation.
The Primary IDE has the cable supplied with the mobo which states "ATA66/100/133 IDE Cable" the Secondary IDE cable is one from my old system which from Jaaks reply would account for the message.
Thinking about it more I originally only had my CD-RW connected to the Secondary IDE whilst building the system but have now connected a slave drive from my old system and it must be this giving the message.
Looks like it would be best to connect an 80 conductor cable.
