Exclamation HELP...exclamation points!

i recently acquired an laptop which has win95 on it.

Seems to have a few problems though.

I have those bright yellow exclamations by the following:

Under the Display adapter....the S3 is marked.
Under Other Devices.........Modem(Tos), OPL3-SA3 Sound System, PCI Card, PCI Card
Under Sound, Video, bla bla bla.........there are ones by Creative Labs Sound Blaster Pro, and the MS Windows Sound System Compatabile.

It also tells me that my display adapter is not configured properly, to correct it start the hardware installation wizard, which is a task that leads nowhere.

It doesnt recognize my modem, (pretty sure it has one..hehe)

Would getting a 95 bootdisk be a solution?....maybee fill in the missing whatevers??......lol

OH, i am still quite new, to this whole comp thing, but in my PC Card Properties window, it tells me that both 1 and 2 Sockets are empty...what does that mean??

Please help, I am befuddled.

Welcome to CTH

1. Go HERE and download and run this program on the Laptop. It is a large file so you will have to burn to a CD, or if you can get on line with the lappie download it with the lappie.

It will tell you everything about the computer you need to know.

2. You will need to reinstall the drivers for those entries with the exclamation marks. Everest will tell you the brand of the devices, post them here and we can help find the right drivers.

Sound Card driver is HERE

"PC Card Properties window, it tells me that both 1 and 2 Sockets are empty: These would be what are called PCMIA (Personal Computer Manufacturer Interface Adaptor) cards that fit into the slots on the side of the laptop e.g., modem, netword card

Why don't you just do one exclamation point at a time. Start with the display adaptors using Everest click on the one that says Display Windows, video and pci should be the same thing so click on one of them. That should show you the brand. I was going to tell you to copy and paste in here but it won't let you paste in here for some reason. Weird. So just type what brands you have so a driver can be located for it. Did you get any disks with that laptop?

When you run everest you will get a window similiar to a control panel with a bunch of icons in it.

Double click on the Motherboard Icon, then on the Motherboard Icon again in the new window. At the top you will see the Motherboard name e.g.,

Field Value
Motherboard Properties
Motherboard ID 10/29/2004-KM400-8235-6A6LYM4BC-00
Motherboard Name MSI KM4M-L (MS-6734 v1)

Highlight and copy then paste that info here, we will help find the drivers.
