Internet connection problem

Hi guys,

Well to start with, we do have a highspeed DSL connection and we're using a router to branch to different computers in the network. Until then, me and my brother were connected (my brother's laptop is undergoing serious problems which's not the subject for the momen. Now, my mom came for a visit with a laptop (a third connection throught the router). While it says it's connected through the LAN icon, the internet is still not accessible. I tried everything I know about this kind of problems (ipconfig/release, ipconfig/renew, went through the LAN properties, Internet explorer internet options). I tried resetting the modem and router but no aval. I finally connected the laptop directly to the modem and the problem still presists. Something in my mom's laptop still prevents from connectiong, something that might have escaped me or I really don't know about.

my whole family depends on my computer now, I can't wait until i have it from myself again

thanks for you help

Download LSP-Fix, found here: http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm

Put is on a floppy disc and run it on your mom's machine. It will restore the Winsock 2 setting on her computer. It might work. If it does she should then be able to connect to net.

hi syn,

the lsp-fix file didn't work for me either, but i googled for another winsock file repair for windows XP and then got to this page

http://www.cit.cornell.edu/computer/...pyware/WinFix/

there follow the steps and download the exe file in section C, step 1 (I started from there since I didn't need to follow steps 1 and 2)

If you're not running windows XP, try to search other winsock repair files that should be suitable for you OS

It worked for me and my mom's laptop is connected, hopefully it will work for you.
